With EGYSZERŰ TÖRTÉNET, Elek continues her longitudinal study of Istenmezején, a village far away from urban centers both geographically and socially speaking. By concentrating on the two girls and their families, an image of rural Hungary emerges that extends far beyond individual fates. “They illustrate how a novel emerges from documentary material while still remaining a documentary. My films are very personal. They concentrate closely on people, feelings and relationships. It's about love, deciding on one’s path through life, marriage, suicide and suicide attempts.” (Judit Elek) A third part was also planned which never actually came to fruition and in which Judith Elek wanted to reflect on her own role in making the films.
